Individual Support
Confidential Counselling and Personal Support for Teachers
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for Teachers provides confidential, compassionate, and professional support to help active NLTA members navigate personal and professional challenges.
Whether you’re coping with stress, facing a difficult transition, or just need someone to talk to, help is just a call or email away.
What Is the EAP?
The EAP is a confidential, voluntary program available to all active members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association (NLTA). It’s designed to promote and maintain emotional health, well-being, and resilience in both your personal and professional life.
Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive space where teachers can receive timely help — and return to feeling their healthiest selves.
EAP Coordinators provide:
- Initial consultation and assessment to help clarify your needs
- Timely intervention and support
- Referral to a qualified and pre-approved external counsellor
- Follow-up and coordination of support, ensuring your experience is positive and effective
Areas of Support
Teachers reach out to the EAP for many reasons, including:
- Stress and Coping
- Anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns
- Trauma
- Relationship/couple concerns
- Family issues
- Workplace stress
- Work-life balance
- Adjustment to change
- Substance Use and Misuse
- Grief and Loss
- Life Transitions
No issue is too small, and it is often helpful to seek support early. Sometimes the most helpful step is simply starting the conversation.
Program Coverage
Each active NLTA member has access to a $3,600 lifetime EAP funding. The program will cover private counselling up to a maximum of $40 per session, and the remainder of the session cost may be covered by you and/or your private insurance plan.
Our EAP Coordinators will help you understand how your coverage works and connect you with counsellors who fit your needs, location, and availability.
Confidentiality
All services provided through the EAP are confidential. No information is shared with your employer, school, or association without your explicit consent. Limits to confidentiality include risk of imminent harm to self or others, risk involving children under the age of 18, or if subpoenaed by a court of law.
How to Access Support
Reaching out is simple — you don’t need an external referral. Contact one of our EAP Coordinators directly to book a confidential conversation or learn more about available supports.

Workplace Wellness
Supporting Teacher Well-Being Across Newfoundland & Labrador
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for Teachers is committed to supporting the health and well-being of educators through a range of workplace wellness resources, outreach, and customized workshops. We recognize the unique pressures of the teaching profession — and we’re here to help you and your school community thrive.
What services are offered through the Workplace Wellness Program?
The program is designed to help schools and education teams build resilience, connection, and psychological well-being in the workplace. We offer a mix of:
- Professional development workshops that are interactive and evidence-based
- Promotional materials to raise awareness about EAP, along with other resources.
Each session combines education, reflection, and action — helping participants explore well-being through real-life examples, self-exploration, and practical strategies.
1. Workshops
Our wellness workshops can be:
- Customized to meet your team’s specific needs, or
- Chosen from a selection of pre-developed presentations, all designed with teachers in mind.
Sessions can be offered upon request and availability. Topics can include:
- The Impact of Values on Well-Being
Discover how personal and professional values act as “silent passengers” in your work life — and how alignment can restore energy, purpose, and resilience. - Understanding the National Standard for Psychological Health & Safety (PHS)
Learn how the 13 psychosocial factors influence well-being and practical steps for creating supportive, healthy school environments. - Preventing Burnout
Recognize early signs of burnout and learn strategies for maintaining balance, boundaries, and sustainable energy in teaching. - Compassion Fatigue & Renewal
Explore the emotional impact of caring professions and ways to reconnect with purpose, boundaries, and recovery. - Navigating Conflict with Care
Build communication and conflict-coaching skills that promote respect, collaboration, and psychological safety. - The Power of Boundaries
Understand how healthy boundaries protect your energy, enhance relationships, and sustain well-being. This session helps teachers reflect on where their limits are and how to communicate them with confidence and compassion.
Other topics can be developed based on your team’s unique interests and needs — from stress management to workplace connection and self-care.
2. Outreach & Resources
Beyond workshops, the Workplace Wellness Program provides electronic or printed EAP promotional materials (posters, bookmarks, digital graphics, handouts, etc). Our goal is to make wellness visible, accessible, and part of the everyday conversation in your school.
